A Brief History of our Library...
The Weehawken Public Library makes its home at 49 Hauxhurst Avenue, in a historic building constructed somewhere between 1904 and 1910. Originally the home was built for the son of William Peter Sr., wealthy brewer/beer baron of the William Peter Brewing Company in Union Hill (later renamed Union City). Germanic in architecture style, the home was built as a miniature replica of a castle on the Rhine River. After changing ownership several times, the property was sold to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey for tunnel construction. However plans to demolish the home were revised, and the Port Authority deeded ownership to the Township of Weehawken.
In September of 1942 the library opened its doors, remaining virtually unchanged until a renovation in 1997 was undertaken. The 1997 renovation and expansion was completed in 1999 and the library reopened to rave reviews. The Weehawken Public Library Multi Media Center is now ADA complient and features 25 computers for public use, a historical room, community room, updated children's reading area and much more.

Black History Month Celebration Available Online:
In case you missed it, you can still join the Weehawken Public Library
and members of the High School's Black Student Union in honoring Black History Month.
Members of the club presented a reading from Maya Angelou's "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings".
which was followed by a live performance by jazz/soul vocalist and songwriter Rhonda Denet.
The concert featured a mixture of jazz, soul, and Motown music celebrating
African-American artists.

BCCLS: BCCLS stands for The Bergen County Cooperative Library System. BCCLS allows Weehawken Residents to search the catalogs of participating libraries and to request books and other materials from the 74 BCCLS member libraries.
Jersey Clicks: This website offers our Residents access to reliable information that is not freely available on the Internet. Through Jersey Clicks you have access to the complete and authoritative text of thousands of magazines, journals, books and transcripts. These copyrighted resources are not searchable through search engines such as Google, but accessible to New Jersey residents at any time of day or night.
Jersey Cat: Jersey Cat is New Jersey's statewide virtual catalog and interlibrary loan system. It is provided to all libraries within the State of New Jersey by the New Jersey State Library and the Regional Library Coopertives. There is no charge to the local library for the service. It also includes a union catalog of holdings from the small to medium libraries that are under 100,00 volumes. Periodical titles can be searched for in the NJ Union List of Serials. It also provides New Jersey residents and library staff with an interlibrary loan system that they can use from their home, school, or office via the World Wide Web.
